At 518 feet high, it is an impressive sight, a lattice-work of ruddy-coloured steel that looks solid enough ... until, that is, you are traveling up to the top in the lift when very little steel seems to get between you and the view along the coast. From the top, try bouncing up and down on the floor to test it for strength, especially the bit called the Walk of Faith. It is nothing really, just a big pane of glass for a floor giving a view of the ground through it some 400 feet below.
You don't have to go up the tower, the base building is extensive and just the thing for a rainy day. It has an award-winning circus with really good clowns that has been packing them in for Over 100 years and usually concludes by a spectacular dropping of the circus ring allows floods of water to become Something Else all together. Blackpool Tower
Blackpool Tower There is also a spacious and richly-decorated dance hall with a fine floor and an absolutely wonderful Wurlitzer organ. (There is often a number of male groupies gathered around it, organ enthusiasts, just listening and gazing in awe. It is a mighty powerful beasty). Ballroom dancers have programmes in the afternoons and evenings. New for 2002 is a new super-modern organ, "The Wersi".
There are bars and tea bars and food and an extensive aquarium with sea horses up to giant turtles and a Jungle Jim's for the children with ball pools and scramble nets, rope swings and slides and more.
